This Wild and Precious Life by Lexie Wolf

Dear Community,

Many times in these past months I’ve been asked what I’m going to do next. The question always makes me smile because it instantly brings to mind that wonderful line from the Mary Oliver poem:

“Tell me, what is it that you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

The answer feels spacious and true and calms my nervous system as it arises:

I am listening for what wants to flow through me next.

It is a privilege to be able to create this kind of room for reflection, and I’m deeply grateful for the gift of time, quiet, and spaciousness at this stage in my life.

Another answer is that I have released Yoga Garden to make more room for deep practice, study, and teaching.

The most recent teacher training Bill and I participated in emphasized something that really resonated: creating and sustaining the conditions for teaching to move through us, rather than simply teaching from the surface of the mind. For me, that requires deep personal practice — and a sincere commitment to walking the walk.

I care deeply about creating spaces where people can come home to themselves. So I know for sure that my future (and present) includes guiding practices, working with students, creating rituals, holding space in various ways, and writing. This summer, I’m feeling into what that looks like as well as embracing fun, play, and family.

Bill is in a similar season of life, having mostly stepped away from the practice of law a couple of years ago. He is one of the most service-oriented people I have ever known, and he serves and gives in ways most people will never see.

What we talk about often these days is how many ways there are to live a meaningful life. How many beautiful ways there are to contribute, create, learn, serve, and connect in this world. We’re making room for whatever wants to emerge next!

Speaking of making room: my dear friend Meadow told me the very first time we met that she wanted to open a yoga studio. I had just opened Yoga Garden at the time. Thank you, Meadow, for waiting so patiently. I’m truly glad you are taking your shot on goal in this one wild and precious life. Pittsboro Yoga is already open, and Bill and I are excited to teach there. It feels like having a friend with a boat – delightful!

I’m also excited to share that Bill’s and my reflections on life and yoga — along with news about our offerings — will now live at somayoganc.com. We hope you’ll visit our new digital home and stay connected.

If you are in the habit of opening these emails, you should receive your first Soma Yoga newsletter in a couple of weeks. Please, of course, feel free to unsubscribe at any time. And if you’d like to make sure our notes don’t disappear into the dreaded spam folder, go ahead and subscribe on the new site and add our email address to your contacts.

With abundant love, and deep bows of gratitude for your support through all these years,

Lexie (and Bill)
